Постоје два традиционална бинарна пола спектра који постоје у оквиру поларизоване секуларне расправе о питању абортуса. На једном крају налазе се заговорници става да жена има неограничено право да одлучи о прекиду трудноће. Насупрот томе, на другом крају спектра налазе се заговорници става да свако дете има основно право на живот и да држава, сходно томе, има интерес да то право заштити. Циљ овог рада јесте да покуша да испита секуларне, као и теолошке аспекте оба краја спектра у расправи о абортусу, пре него што понуди могући заједнички консензус заснован на
хришћанској етици, поткрепљен библијским учењем, кроз анализу етичких разматрања аргумената за право избора, анализу етичких разматрања аргумената за живот, и, најзад, предлагање заједничке алтернативе овом спорном питању настојећи да се превазиђе бинарна природа расправе и да се пажња усмери на заједничке интересе пронађене у екуменском теолошком приступу.
