У овом чланку се обрађују специфичности улоге цркве и верских организација у животу модерног руског друштва. Чланак идентификује најизазовније теоријске и методолошке проблеме социологије религије. Нарочито је обраћена пажња на питање теоријске и практичне концептуализације које ова дисциплина користи – религиозност и црквеност. Анализа овог проблема даје приказ емпиријских података у вези са важним и контроверзним догађајима са којим се једно вишеверско друштва као што је Русија суочава, а то су рецимо толеранција, слобода, кршење права верника.
